This one is for all lovers of fine, spicy food. If you think the stuff they churn out at Mumbai's Trishna and Mahesh Lunch Home is good, wait till you tuck in at the restaurants of Malvan.

Here, ladies and gentlemen, is where you will find the real McCoy "� seafood so fresh it's not funny, and at down-to-earth prices too.

Prawns, shellfish, pomfret, bombil, chicken, mutton... phew, it's almost too much for the palate.

Hotel Ruchira, Hotel Saiba and Hotel Sunita are among the best places to eat. You can catch a boat to the sea-fort of Sindhudurg, in the unlikely event that you tire of eating. The drive here, down NH17, is fabulous.

Malvan is 525 km from Mumbai down NH17, via Chiplun, Rajapur and Kasal. There are small lodges here, but a better option is to stay in Tarkarli, 7 km away. The MTDC resort (Ph: 022"�22026713, prior booking needed) is your best bet.
