Korean Pop-star Psy’s Gangnam Style video took the world by storm, but back home YoYo Honey Singh’s Brown Rang song emerged as the most popular video of the year in India for 2012.
According to YouTube in Rewind, Psy’s Gangnam style video was the second-most watched video in India. Bollywood continued to rule the charts, with most watched songs and movie trailers on YouTube.
Year 2012 has been a big year for YouTube globally and in India, said the report. Globally, users saw over four billion hours of video a month. “And we’re beginning to see amateurs filmmakers and video enthusiasts exploring their talent on YouTube in India,” said a statement from Google.
Tseries topped among the most subscribed channels, followed by SetIndia, Yash Raj Films, Erosentertainment and Rajshri. Among the most watched TV shows, Sony Entertainment Television’s Bade Achche Lagte Hai topped the charts, followed by SAB’s Tarak Mehta ka oolta Chashma among others.
According to 2012’s top trending videos and the most subscribed channels from India, YouTube has truly gone mainstream in India with million of users watching songs, TV shows and subscribing to channels to catch their favorite content. Sports and language content also made their way to the top most subscribed channels.
The YouTube came out with the list of most watched videos not just based on views but also shares, searches, likes and responses to identify the 10 videos that everybody was talking about in 2012.
