Employees will no longer need a computer to apply for a job. They can now use their mobile phones to do so.

JobStreet India, a sister portal of JobStreet 18 "" one of Asia's leading online recruitment companies "" has revamped its job site with a 'Smart Apply' feature. However, one has to be registered with Jobstreet, to begin with. To use the facility one has to simply type APPLY on one's mobile phone, followed by the email ID of the recruiter and then send it to the number specified by the website.

How it works is simple: The SMS service recognises the mobile number as a registered user of Jobstreet and emails your resume from Jobstreet's database to the company you have applied to. Currently, this feature is available only on JobStreet India.

The advantage is that employees need not surreptitiously use their office PCs and laptops to apply for new jobs. They can leverage their mobile phones to access and send their curriculum vitaes (CVs) confidentially even at their workplace. Additionally, they can send their CVs even as they sip their morning tea and browse the newspaper for jobs.

Balu Pandian, marketing director (India), JobStreet 18, says, "We have been brainstorming how to innovate the services for our users. We conducted a poll through email with 2.5 million users of our registered database.

The study reveals that most job seekers search jobs from office between 10.30 am to 3 pm. These are the peak traffic hours. Secondly, there's the issue of confidentiality while applying from office. Our idea was to bypass the need of the computer. As every working person has a mobile phone, this was the obvious answer."

The company has added one more time-saving feature "" Smart Register. The user simply needs to upload the resume, and the rest of the information needed to fill the application form at the registration stage will be extracted from the word document itself.

The resume extraction software will help in saving the time spent to key in the information manually. The company executives say that candidates are smart and evolved. They are looking for time-saving and intelligent processes when looking for job options, and this feature, hopes Pandian, will offer a world-class online job search experience.
