Airtel launches 4G services in Uttar Pradesh

India's largest telecom company Bharti Airtel on Thursday launched its 4G services in Uttar Pradesh.

In the current phase, the 4G services have been launched in 13 towns viz. Lucknow, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Agra, Aligarh, Bulandshahar, Hapur, Mathura, Modinagar, Muzzafarnagar, and Meerut.

By November end, the 4G services would be expanded to cover over 200 towns spanning 42 districts in the state.

Bharti Airtel CEO (UP and Uttarakhand) Shailendra Singh said demo zones and kiosks had been installed at all Airtel retail outlets to allow customers upgrade existing 2G/3G SIMs with 4G for free.

He said Airtel 4G was available to customers across smart devices including mobile phones, dongles, and 4G hotspots.

For higher network capacity and superior customer experience, Airtel 4G services have been rolled out using spectrum band of 1800 MHz (FD LTE).

Under a new 4G offer for Airtel prepaid customers, subscribers could avail of 10 GB 4G data for Rs 249 in UP (West) and Rs 255 in UP (East) with any new 4G handset.

Airtel recently launched a new version of MyAirtel App to offer best of music, movies games, LIVE TV, e-books, and chats etc.

Earlier, the company had launched India's first 4G network in Kolkata in April 2012. The 4G service is now available in 21 circles across India.

In November 2015, Airtel had started its network transformation programme 'Project Leap'. With pan-India investment of Rs 60,000 crore over the next three years, it is a strategic initiative aimed at perceptibly improving network quality.
