The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), whose dairy products come under the popular ‘Amul’ brand, today announced a pan-India rise in milk prices by Rs 1-2 a litre.
“We have increased prices of our various brands by Rs 1 to Rs 2, to come into effect from December 30 in Gujarat and Delhi and by January 3 in other parts of the country,” said R S Sodhi, managing director.
He said prices of Amul’s Gold and Shakti brands would be raised by Rs 2 a litre and of other brands like Taaza, Slim and Trim by Rs 1 a litre.
It is the third time this year that GCMMF has raised milk prices. It had done so in February and July, too.
After the rise, Amul-Gold will be Rs 34 per litre in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and in some districts of Gujarat. Its Shakti brand will be Rs 30 per litre, Taaza will be Rs 25 per litre and Slim and Trim, Rs 23 per litre.
“In Mumbai, the prices of our Taaza brand shall only be increased by Rs 1 per litre, as the price of Gold is already ruling at Rs 34 per litre. In Kolkata, we are hiking the prices of Gold by Rs 2 and Rs 1 of the Taaza brand, respectively, from January 3,” Sodhi said.
“We had to increase the milk prices, as the dairy farmers have been reeling under the burden of inflation. The prices of feedstock, labour and fuel have all gone up. In Gujarat, we are hiking milk prices in Ahmedabad and the Saurashtra region only. It will be the call of other member-unions of the federation (individual dairies) to hike milk prices in their respective districts,” Sodhi added.
GCMMF supplies a total of 2.7-2.9 million litres of milk per day under the Amul brand to New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.
