APTransco to invest Rs 5900 cr

APTransco is planning to invest Rs 5,900 crore in new transmission substations and lines in the next four years to meet the growing demand in terms of evacuation and transmission of power in the state.

Ajay jain, managing director of the state power transmission utility, today said the corporation had sanctioned projects worth Rs 2,941 crore this year.

It invested Rs 1,005 crore in new substations and power lines in 2010-11, Rs 100 crore higher than the previous year, according to him. The corporation is also planning to take up a 765-kV transmission line to evacuate power from the proposed 4,000 mw plant to be set up by APGenco at Vodarevu in Guntur district.

Jain said they were making special efforts to augment transmission capacity in four growth areas, where the demand has been growing 15-20 per cent year on year.

The utility earned Rs 1,026.30 crore income in 2010-11 as compared with Rs 885.29 crore in the previous year while profit before tax stood at Rs 132 crore from Rs 126 crore registered in the previous fiscal.
