Ashok Leyland July sales jump 16%

Commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland today reported a 16% jump in sales during July.
The city-headquartered company reported sales of 7,834 units in July 2011, up 16% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. The company, a flagship of the Hinduja Group, said in a statement that it had sold 6,747 units in July 2010.
However, for the April-July 2011 period, total sales marginally dipped to 27,111 units as against 28,147 units during the same period of last year.
Total sales in the domestic market in July 2011 was 6,774 units as against 6,022 units in the same month last year, while exports grew by 46% to 1,060 units in July from 725 units in July 2010, it said.
Total sales of vehicles in the domestic market during the April-July 2011 dipped to 23,512 units as against 25,482 units in the comparable period of last year.
Exports from April to July 2011 soared to 3,599 units from 2,665 units in the same period of last year, it added.
