A Bureau of Prisons website says that disgraced financier Bernard Madoff has been moved to a federal prison in Atlanta.
The site was updated early today to list Madoff's location as the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta. No further details were given, and a bureau spokeswoman declined comment early today.
A law enforcement official told The Associated Press yesterday that Madoff had left a New York lockup on his way to a North Carolina facility. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss prisoner transfers.
The 71-year-old Madoff was sentenced last month to a 150-year sentence after admitting he bilked thousands of investors out of billions of dollars in a massive Ponzi scheme.
