BHEL-Ranipet unit in tech tie-up with Mitsubishi

Will manufacture and supply flue gas desulphurisation system meant for removal of sulphur dioxide from flue gases

BHEL -Ranipet has entered into a technology tie-up with Mitsubishi Heavy Engineering Industries, Japan, to manufacture and supply flue gas desulphurisation system meant for removal of sulphur dioxide from flue gases.

This will be a 15-year tie-up, said TN Veeraraghavan, executive director, BHEL-Ranipet.

With power plants importing more and more coal, the company was seeing good business here since imported coal had higher sulphur content, said M Satyamoorthy, general manager - engineering. "We are expecting around Rs 2,000 crore going forward from this business alone," he said.

The ticket size of this business would be Rs 300 crore for a 650-Mw plant. The company is bidding for NTPC's Vindhyachal project and is hopeful of getting the order to install the system. It expects Rs 250-300 crore order during the current year, according to him.

The unit is also planning to enter sewage water treatment along with US-giant GE. "It will be again a technology collaboration and we are looking at Rs 400 crore worth of business by 2016-17," said Satyamoorthy.
