Birla Corporation is expecting to sign an agreement with the Assam government in September for the proposed 1 million tonne cement plant, a top company official said today.
"Everything is in place, we are just waiting for the Chief Minister to recover fully and resume office," Birla Corp Chairman Harsh V Lodha said on the sidelines of an ICC organised roadshow.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi underwent a complex double heart surgery in Mumbai earlier this month.
Lodha said that the company would be sourcing limestone from Assam for which a separate pact would be signed with Assam Mineral Development Corp while coal would be sourced from Meghalaya.
Birla Corp's current brown-field expansion projects would take its capacity to 9 million tonnes in next two years.
