Britannia net up 11% for Q2

Food company Britannia Industries has reported an increase of 11 per cent in its net profit at Rs 59.07 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2009, compared with the corresponding quarter last year, on the back of recent launches and its focus on the Rs 5 price point.

The operating profit of the company increased marginally by 3.1 per cent to Rs 68.63 crore compared with the same period a year ago.

Net sales for the quarter also saw a marginal increase of 2.3 per cent to Rs 858.51 crore as against the year ago period.

In this quarter, the company’s spend on advertisement and sales promotion went up by 27.5 per cent to Rs 71.23 crore compared to the corresponding quarter last year.
