Bugatti's Rs 16-crore Veyron is now most expensive car in India

Move over Rolls-Royce, Phantom and Maybach models. At Rs 16 crore - and upwards, the super-premium sports car maker Bugatti Automobiles’ Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport model has now become the most expensive car in the Indian auto market after the Volkswagen Group company launched the model in the National Capital today. The Grand Sport, which has a top speed of 407 km per hour and an acceleration of 0-100 km in 2.7 seconds, will be distributed by Exclusive Motors in India. “The price of the car will be subject to foreign exchange fluctuations and the levels of customisation the customer demands,” Exclusive Motors MD Satya Bagla said. Deliveries would be made within eight months from booking. The company, however, declined to specify any sales target for the Indian market. Bagla said: “The Bugatti Veyron is four times more expensive than other luxury cars currently being sold in India. We have received enquiries and are testing customer response.”

Bugatti Automobiles Sales Manager Guy Caquelin said: “The luxury car market in India is growing at 25 per cent every year. The opportunity for such cars is good.” Bugatti aims to sell around 60-80 units of Veyron across the globe. Every year, queries for about three-four Veyron models came from Indians globally. Caquelin added: “So, we are launching here to bring the product to our customers.” The car uses components made of special materials like titanium, carbon fibre and magnesium. It is powered by an eight-litre engine with 16 cylinders and is assembled by hand at the company's headquarters at Molsheim in France.

Successor to Galibier,
Veyron early next year Meanwhile, Bugatti Automobiles executives said the company is looking at developing a four-door limousine, Bugatti 16 C Galibier, to succeed the Veyron. The decision would be taken early next year. Bugatti Automobiles Head (Tradition) Julius Kruta said: “We are currently studying a proposal to develop Galibier. A final decision is going to be taken early next year. If all goes well, the Galibier will go into production in 2013. It would be fitted with the Veyron 1000 HP engine, 16 cylinders. But will not have turbochargers.”
