CESC net up 12.8%

CESC, the flagship company of the RPG group, reported 12.82 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 44 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2006 from Rs 39 crore in the corresponding quarter of the last year.

The turnover has also increased to Rs 605 crore in the quarter from Rs 582 crore last year.

For the full year ended march 2006, the company witnessed 25 per cent jump in net profit for the financial year ended March 2006 to Rs 179 crore compared with Rs 147 crore recorded last year.

The turnover of the power utility has gone up to Rs 2,579 crore in the year from Rs 2,387 crore last year.

Sanjiv Goenka, vice-chairman and managing director, said the power utility has improved performance despite a downward revision of tariff by Rs 0.24.

"This is because our operating efficiency has improved," he said.
