Cognizant opens new delivery center in Costa Rica

This will be the company's fifth in Latin America, 15th in the Americas

Cognizant today announced of expansion of its its delivery and operations footprint in the Americas with the opening of a delivery center in Costa Rica. This will be Cognizant’s fifth in Latin America and 15th in the Americas.
 
The center will enable Cognizant’s global customers to leverage the operational, technical and linguistic capabilities available in the region, while delivering deep local insights and time zone advantages to the company’s growing roster of customers in North and South America. It will further strengthen Cognizant’s ability to help customers address the dual mandate of driving operational efficiencies to fund innovation and business transformation, said the company in a statement.
 
“Our new center in Costa Rica marks an important milestone in our ongoing mission to leverage the best talent globally and is part of our endeavor to offer clients strong local relationship management with robust global service delivery capabilities,” commented Francisco D’Souza, Chief Executive Officer of Cognizant. 
 
“The center is a result of our continued investments in people, facilities, systems and processes to meet the strong demand for transformative services that help our customers ‘run better’ as well as ‘run different’ in driving market differentiation and leadership,” he added.
 
Gajen Kandiah, Executive Vice-President, Business Process Services, Cognizant added the new facility can accommodate more than 100 professionals. The investment is mainly in our people and the leadership team. 
 
To start with, the center will deliver business process services to banking and financial services providers focused on the real estate industry.
 
To a question on why Costa Rica, he said the country has the highest English proficiency in Latin America, produces more than 45,000 college graduates annually—a number expected to go up to 60,000 by 2017. The other advantages are includes IT and telecom infrastructure, good connectivity and ease of travel demanded by new global sourcing functions requiring more interaction [close proximity to the U.S.] and others, he said.
