Gujarat accumulated the highest revenue in the used-Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cars segment, according to a survey undertaken by CarTrade.com. The findings of the survey, conducted by the website from January to December 2014, stated that car buyers in Gujarat opted for simple and economical used-CNG cars to cut down on expenses.

Among the cities in Gujarat, which made a beeline for used-CNG cars, Surat tops the list with a demand of 18.35 per cent, followed by Rajkot, which reported a 16.45 per cent demand. Ahmedabad registered a 13.14 per cent demand for used-CNG cars.

Maruti Suzuki Swift was the most in-demand used car model, according to the survey, which was followed by Maruti Suzuki Alto, Maruti Suzuki 800, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Hyundai Santro Xing, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai i20, Honda City and Toyota Innova.

A substantial 84 per cent of the car buyers, the survey highlighted, sought for used-cars costing under Rs 5 lakh, while only 0.67 per cent of the buyers preferred automobiles exceeding the Rs 40 lakh bracket.

The findings further emphasize that more than 60 per cent consumers opted for cars ranging below Rs 3 lakh in tier-II markets while almost 50 per cent buyers opted for automobiles costing in excess of Rs 3 lakh in tier-I markets.

The country's financial capital Mumbai, according to the survey, recorded the highest demand for cars priced over Rs 10 lakh in tier-I markets.

Diesel cars ruled the roost among car buyers in tier-I cities owing to the higher average distance travelled, according to the survey, while petrol cars were more in demand in tier-II cities.

Hatchback cars were the most sought after in tier-II cities while Sedan cars were more in demand in tier-I cities, the survey highlighted.

CarTrade.com, the website says, is among one of the online auto marketplaces providing buyers and sellers a structured platform for transacting in new and used vehicles. The website carries out such surveys to comprehend the trends in automobile market in a better way.
