A combination of low fares and peak season demand led to a 25 per cent growth in air traffic in November over the same month last year. Carriers flew 7.3 million passengers last month compared with 5.8 million passengers transported in November 2014.

IndiGo retained its leadership position with a market share of 35.5 per cent followed by Jet Airways-JetLite combine (21.3 per cent) and Air India (16.2 per cent).

SpiceJet reported highest occupancy (90.7 per cent) among peers though its loads declined over the past month. Occupancy on all the airlines showed growth with IndiGo and GoAir reporting loads of 83 per cent.

Tata-Singapore Airlines joint venture Vistara's occupancy rose above 70 per cent for the first time since its launch in January. Vistara reported loads of 72.2 per cent and the airline attributed the rise to “fast growing base of loyal customers”.

Vistara and AirAsia also had a zero cancellation record in November.

Air travel has been growing at 20 per cent in the past few months. Data from International Air Transport Association show that demand growth in India was the highest among Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Russia and the US.
