Airfares have declined by around 35 per cent and 16 per cent on domestic and international routes on a year-on-year basis, resulting in growth in passenger traffic, according to findings of online portal MakeMyTrip.

It said fares on popular routes like Delhi-London and Mumbai-New York have declined around 16 per cent while average reduction on certain domestic routes in 35 per cent.

In the domestic network, addition of frequencies by domestic airlines including IndiGo and Vistara has resulted in passenger growth. The portal has analysed fares on various routes during April-June period now and same period last year.

"Domestic market continues to grow at a very healthy rate and attractive sales by airlines have further energized travel to domestic and foreign destinations like Dubai, Colombo, Kathmandu, New York, London, Singapore, Bangkok.

With a heavy advance purchase for the summer vacation period and the upcoming high travel season, we expect the overall numbers to maintain the robust growth." Diwakar Pareek, vice-president (online revenue), MakeMyTrip, said in a statement.
