EdServ, a Chennai-based education and placement company, has bagged a five-year government training deal in Gujarat. The contract value is around Rs 40 crore.

As per the MoU signed with Gujarat state government’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) and Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), EdServ will set up and run three skill extension (training) centres at Kheralu in Mehsana district, and at Gondal and Aji in Rajkot district of the state.

EdServ said it would provide need-based, industry-responsive manpower who are managerially and technically competent by setting up and training youth at Skill Upgradation Centres (SUCs) at GIDC estates, industrial clusters and SEZs.

The skill development centres would also provide short-term bridge courses under public-private partnership mode and specialised skill development centres for niche trades. EdServ will provide sector-specific skill development training in industries such as textiles and apparels, gems and jewellery.

While the government would invest in infrastructure at these centres, EdServ will develop the content, recruit people and provide training as well as placement assistance. The training program is expected to begin in January 2011.

S Giridharan, chairman and CEO, EdServ, said the latest deal, following the vocational training provider (VTP) status granted to the company by the ministry of Labour and Employment, is an indicator of its growing presence in the government training space.
