The 2 billion Elcoteq Network Corporation, one of Europe's largest electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, has announced the setting up of a mobile handset and telecommunication infrastructure manufacturing base in Bangalore.

The company has committed a multi-million dollar investment in the unit which is expected to employ around 1,00 professionals. It is likely to be operational in a year.

Elcoteq manufactures for global conglomerates such as Nokia and is in conversation with its existing and potential clients to manufacture a part of their requirements from its Bangalore unit.

The Bangalore unit will be the 13th for Elcoteq and the operations will increasingly look at sourcing from Indian suppliers to achieve economies of scale.
