Ecommerce marketplace Flipkart is expecting its seller base in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to grow between 10 per cent and 15 per cent month-on-month this year, from the present number of 3,000 sellers,  with cities  like Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada fast becoming the key seller hubs of these regions.

According to Flipkart,  consumer electronics, apparels and accessories are the top-performing categories in  the two Telugu states. Categories like home, jewellery and personal care are gaining popularity with growing demand, the ecommerce company said in a release on Friday.

“Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are known for its silk, jewellery and electronic products and home to over 20,000 local artisans and entrepreneurs. Our aim is to empower them to explore the marketplace model and train them on how grow their customer base and business exponentially. We have been working on several seller empowerment initiatives to bring the sellers of this region to the forefront as we see a lot of potential in the sellers of this region,” said Manish Maheshwari, head and vice president (seller ecosystem), Flipkart.

Maheshwari claims that 50 of Flipkart’s sellers in AP and Telangana had become millionaires during last year.

“We are confident that this year with our new seller app and other initiatives, we will see at least another 1000 more sellers joining us from to become part of the Indian e-commerce ecosystem,” he added.
