Ford begins community programmes around Sanand plant
Company has drawn up plans to provide potable drinking water to 16 anganwadis in 30 villages
BS Reporter Ahmedabad As a part of its Global Week of Caring (GWC), Ford India has begun community projects in villages around its upcoming Sanand plant.
The company has drawn up plans to provide potable drinking water to 16 anganwadis in 30 villages, apart from improving the infrastructure of a primary health center at Jholapur village in the area.
More than 10,000 employees with Ford Volunteer Corps are tackling more than 200 community projects across six continents world during the Ford Global Week of Caring during the eighth annual Ford GWC during September 7 through September 15, 2013.
A company statement here claimed, "More than $ 290,000 in grants worldwide help support community service projects, including new initiatives in Europe and the Asia Pacific region; more than $ 40,000 sanctioned as grants to support projects in India."
During the GWC, around 1500 volunteers from Ford in India worked on 31 projects spanning education, health, environment, women empowerment and humanitarian support, across four locations.
At Sanand, the company has been working with school children in a village called Motipura to educate them about health and sanitation, apart from taking environmental initiatives like planting of saplings.
The company is planning to start a potable drinking water project in 16 anganwadis across 30 villages in the area. Work on the project could begin during the end of this year, informed a company official here.
