Delhi court rejects anticipatory bail plea of IDFC Capital CEO

Tapasije Mishra, chief executive officer of IDFC Capital, has been accused of sexual abuse by a former airhostess. In a first information report (FIR) filed with the Vasant Kunj police station in Delhi, the airhostess has alleged Mishra had sexual relations with her for the past three years on the false promise that he would marry her. She accused Mishra of backtracking on his commitment and physically torturing her.

Mishra approached a Delhi court for anticipatory bail but the court rejected the plea on the ground that custodial interrogation of the accused was required to investigate the allegations of mental and physical torture.

“This is a private matter and does not involve the firm or any other employee of the firm. We have a clearly defined code of conduct relating to employees and their behaviour. We will take appropriate action in line with our policies, based on facts and circumstances of the case. Meanwhile, the employee concerned is on indefinite leave,” said Arun Raste, IDFC Capital spokesperson.

IDFC Capital is the merchant banking arm of IDFC. Mishra co-founded the business and has played a key role in building it from scratch since 1993.

This is not the first case of alleged sexual abuse against a top CEO. In May, former CEO of Igate, Phaneesh Murthy was sacked by the board for violating company policy and not disclosing his relationship with a subordinate.
