Gabriel India Limited may retrench upto 150 employees of the company's plant in Parwanoo in Himachal Pradesh.
Gabriel, a producer of automobile parts, has a total of 250 employees here. The unit has been facing regular strikes for six weeks or so. Sources said an application has been submitted at the office of the labour commissioner asking for permission to lay off 150 staffers by December 25.
The labour commissioner has reportedly told the company that at least 60 days prior notice is needed before retrenching employees. The Gabriel plant is the oldest unit in the industrial town of Parwanoo, set up in 1978. Company sources said Federal Mogul recently bought a major stake in the Gabriel India.
