Some people left the area following leakage of gas at Dhaludih in Jharia as experts of Bharat Coking Coal Limited today went to the area, a senior BCCL official said here.
Terming the incident as quite common, BCCL's General Manager (Bastakola Area) RU Pandey said "there is no report of any harm to the people following the leakage of gas. Experts have gone to check the intensity of the leakage to take further action."
"The Dhaludih Project is situated in subsidence and mine-fire zone, and leakage of gas is a common occurrence in the area," he added.
The official said the BCCL had earlier issued notices to the people to vacate the zone and very few people were left in the surrounding areas.
Underground fire has been raging in Jharia coalfields for the past several decades and the central government has approved Rs 10 crore for relocation and rehabilitation of the residents.
While some people have left the area, others have been demanding more compensation.
