US-based GE appliances today announced launching of its new range of 3-star and 5-star rated split ACs for the market in North India.
Punjab is the first state where the company has launched nine different models of star-rated split air-conditioners which would be available at leading multi-brand outlets (MBOs).
According to Shelka Marketing Private Limited, (distributor of GE appliance for North India), Managing Director P K Mahindra the industry statistics proved the market for ACs in India was taking giant leaps.
As against 2.8 million ACs sold in India last year, this year 1.2 million ACs have been sold in three months from March till May, 65 per cent of which are in the split AC segment.
After ACs the company intends to introduce refrigerators and washing machines to consumers in North India in coming months. GE is eyeing $10 million business by end of the financial year, from the North market itself .Of the total revenue, GE appliance is hoping more than 50 per cent would come through ACs and rest through washing machines and refrigerators.
Shelka Marketing Private Limited plans to appoint 60-70 dealers in the region by end of this year who would be selling GE appliance products to the consumers in North India in the coming months.
P K Mahindra revealed along with dealers, couple of ‘GE Shoppe’ would also be launched in the region where focus would be on displaying the products to the consumers and making them understand the world class features GE appliances were loaded with.
The GE appliance products are mostly targeted towards the top end of value chain, as company intends to gradually percolate down with its product for the masses.
Shelka Marketing would also set-up an India-centric Appliances Modification and Training Excellence Centre for Development of prototypes for India specific modifications, Evaluation of competitive products, Product demonstration and Technical training to GE dealer sales staff and for providing training to GE dealer mechanics on installation, in warranty service and trouble shooting.
GE Appliances also plans to introduce its range of washing machines in July 2010 for the consumers in the North region followed by its range of Side by Side Frost Free Refrigerators in September 2010.
