Genpact, which has eight centres in India spread across Gurgaon, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata, is focusing on tier-II cities like Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Indore, Coimbatore, Kochi and Nagpur for their next centre, likely to come up within a year's time.
However, the need for a centre would be driven by the increase in business volumes and the need of splitting risks, while the choice of place would be determined by the availability of talent pool in an area, said Rakesh Chopra, senior vice-president, operations.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the formal launch of the Genpact centre in Kolkata. This 80,000 squarefeet facility currently has capacity to house 1,000 personnel.
While the centre currently employs 400, the head count is expected to increase to 1,500 by December 2007 and upto 5,000 by the same time in 2010, informed Ashok Tyagi, senior vice-president, enabling services.
The company is also looking at establishing hiring more offices, which sometimes get converted into business centres based on the the response a centre generates and the talent pool available in that area.
The company currently has such offices in Vishakapatnam, Kochi, Delhi, Noida, Jaipur, Indore, Bhopal, Dehradun and Lucknow.
Genpact is looking at increasing the number to 18 within the next year, looking specifically at places in Jharkhand.
Asansol in West Bengal is also on the Radar, while a new office has been set up in Guwahati in Assam, informed Mohit Bhatia, SVP, finance and accounting. "The idea is to have at least two centres running the same service, for the purposes of continuity of business," explained Chopra.
While the Kolkata centres works more as a knowledge process outsource for the company, specialising in finance and accounting solutions, software and analytics, 45 per cent of its nationwide revenues were contributed by financial and insurance services to foreign clients, informed Tyagi. Genpact's global turnover last year was to the tune of $ 493 million, out of which its India operations contributed to $420 million.
