GMR commissions 25 MW solar plant in Gujarat

GMR Energy, a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure, today said it had entered the renewable power generation with the commissioning of its 25 MW solar plant at Patan in Gujarat.

"GMR Energy has commissioned its first 25 MW solar power plant at Patan in Gujarat. This plant also marks GMR Group's foray into renewable energy space," a company statement said.

The 25 MW grid interactive solar power project was executed through GMR Gujarat Solar Power, a subsidiary of GMR Energy, the statement said.

"We wish to play a very responsible role as a power producer. Our power plants are energy efficient and eco-friendly," CEO GMR Energy Raaj Kumar said.

The project was awarded in October 2010 under the Gujarat Solar Policy. The electricity generated from this plant will be supplied to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam on a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The company plans to enhance its renewable energy portfolio by over 100 MW in the next two years, the statement added.

Meanwhile, Adani Power also commissioned its first 40 MW solar power plant at Kutch district, Gujarat.

The power generated from this solar plant will be evacuated through a 66 KV line linked to a substation in Netra, located 20 km away from the project site. The project was also awarded under Gujarat Solar Power Policy.

Under this policy, at least 84 solar projects are to be built in various parts of Gujarat.

The current installed electricity generation capacity of Gujarat is around 17,000 MW, from all sources of energy.
