To tap the search engine market, google has embarked upon “start searching India” campaign. The company launched the campaign in Bhopal city since the company has found Bhopal has more users for e-governance applications.

“We see more and more people are using Internet for various needs but users in Bhopal are more interested in e-governance applications,” Sandeep Menon, director marketing google India said.

The company uses its search engine as a tool for creating advertising space, yet it has to reinvent its search engine in terms of creating right information about a place. For example google search engine highlights lower lake when a user searches Bhopal on google. In contrast Upper Lake is not only famous in Bhopal but it is one of the biggest man-made lakes in the world.

“Google is expanding its search engine consistently. From mere matching a word now it understands what exactly a user means and the engine gives right information back to the user,” Menon said.

Menon also said his company would keep on improving the search engine for mobile applications as more and more people from tier-II towns like Bhopal are now using ultra-modern mobile applications.

For users in towns like Bhopal, the search engine would bring more like trip advice, cricket score, movie tickets, restaurant details and other similar information. “It saves time when you land from a bigger town to smaller town like Bhopal, if you search a restaurant in Bhopal it comes back with detailed information on the restaurant along with picture,” Menon said.

Google was launched in 1998, and has now become top web property in all major global markets. Google’s targeted advertising programmes provide business of all sizes with measurable results, while enhancing the overall web experience for users. “We are quite ecstatic that the Bhopal populace is already using internet for their smallest of requirements. This campaign is targeted at familiarizing the people with the diverse uses of Internet and equipping them with the requisite skills for optimized usage of the search features offered by google,” Menon added.
