Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) has registered a fall in net profit by 8 per cent for the second quarter ended September 30. The net profit stood at Rs 52.77 crore for the current quarter as against Rs 57.57 crore in the same period of the previous year.
 
The company's sales turnover of Rs 271.75 crore for the current quarter represents a 16 per cent growth over a turnover Rs. 235.07 crore last year. The gross profit before interest and depreciation has registered a fall of 3 per cent, as the gross profit decreased to Rs 109.47 crore during the quarter compared with Rs 113.39 crore of the same period last year.
 
The debt-equity ratio at the end of the quarter has further improved to 0.29:1 as compared with 0.53:1 as on 31 March, 2006, on account of repayment Rs 95 crore during the half year ended September 30, 2006. The company has also declared an interim dividend at 15 per cent on each share of face value of Rs 10.
