State-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, with the help of the Indian Coast Guard and agencies, has been able to contain the spread of oil spillage at the leak site at Kamothe, Navi Mumbai.

The pipeline had on Thursday developed a crack causing thousands of litres of wastage.

The company said, "Special equipment have enabled to clear the drain to 70 per cent of the surface area of the spill."

The company said that cleaning of the oil slick on drain surface water is continuing and field officer Maharashtra Pollution Control Board is on regular visits to review and monitor the situation and the action taken by the company towards protecting the environment.
