Hyundai Motor India Limited is eyeing sales of 3,00,000 units this year as compared to 2,52,851 units during 2005. This amounts to a growth of 18.6 per cent this year.
 
Besides, the company has announced that the existing version of Accent will not be phased out. Instead Hyundai will be introducing a new version of Accent while continuing with the existing version. The wholly-owned subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company is also planning to roll out a small car from its new plant near Chennai in 2007.
 
Addressing the media, Heung Soo Lheem, managing director of Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, "We are eyeing a market share of 20 per cent this year as compared to around 18 per cent last year. We are targeting sales of three lakh units this year, of which one lakh units will be exported."
 
Hyundai Motor India is looking at exporting to 80 countries this year as against 55 countries last year. The new geographies that it is looking at include New Zealand and Singapore besides some east European countries.
 
With regard to the introduction of new models, Lheem said that the company had decided not to phase out the existing version of Accent. The new version of Accent would be a higher-end model that would compete with cars like Fiesta and Honda City, Wang Sik Min, executive director, marketing and sales, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said.
 
Meanwhile, the company is looking at rolling out a small car from its new plant near Chennai in 2007.
 
This car is likely to cater primarily to the export market. Hyundai officials were in Hyderabad for the inauguration of the fifth exclusive outlet in the city. The company is eyeing a market share of 30 per cent here as compared to 26 per cent earlier.
