"We have a 4,000 MW coal-based thermal power projects coming up in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu. We will be sourcing coal for this plant from our coal mines in Indonesia. The plant has 6 units of which two will get commissioned by December 2014," Sunil Wadhwa CEO, IL&FS Energy Development Company told PTI.
He was speaking on the sidelines of IPPAI regulators' retreat here.

IL&FS Energy has also envisaged setting up another 4,000 MW thermal plant in Gujarat and will also build a 2,000 MW gas-based plant and an LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) terminal alongside the plant.
"We have another 4,000 MW coal-based plant in Gujarat, we are trying for coal linkages for the plant, it is being built on a very flexible basis, it can even work on imported coal.
"The environment clearance for the project is underway and the project is expected to commence construction in the next 8-10 months," Wadhwa said.
He added that the company is also constructing a 2,000 MW gas-based project and an LNG terminal near that project. Approval processes are more or less over.
The company which plans to add another 1,000 MW gas-based capacity in its kitty would do so by executing a 750 MW gas based plant in Joint Venture with ONGC in Tripura using the state-run company's gas.
Sounding bullish on renewable energy plans, the company is hopeful of completing 1,000 MW wind power projects this year itself.
According to sources, the company is planning to list its wind power business on the bourses. However, the company official declined comment on the matter.
Meanwhile, last month, state-owned iron ore miner NMDC has decided to rope in IL&FS Energy Development Company as joint venture partner for setting up a 500 MW thermal power plant in Uttar Pradesh with an estimated investment of Rs 2,000 crore.
IL&FS Energy would arrange coal for the power plant either through purchase, auction or long-term fuel supply agreement.
