The greenfield project will cost around Rs 800cr

Isgec John Thompson (IJT), a division of Saraswati Industrial Syndicate Ltd and Foster Wheeler North America Corporation, US, is planning to set up a manufacturing facility for sub-critical and super-critical boilers in Tamil Nadu.

The greenfield project is likely to see an investment of around Rs 800 crore.

“We are looking for around 150 acres of land in the Tiruchy-Madurai belt. This is our priority stretch. If we are unable to get the land, our second option will be the Dahej special economic zone in Gujarat,” said SP Singh, senior vice president – marketing, IJT.

The company already has a manufacturing facility in the Dahej SEZ.

The proposed plant will have an initial annual capacity of 4,000 Mw and can be increased to 8,000 Mw, Singh said on the sidelines of Boilers 2010, here. IJT currently has a manufacturing capacity is around 2,000 Megawatt (Mw) of steam generators and auxiliaries a year.

Recently, the two partners announced the signing of a license agreement for technology transfer to engineer, design, manufacture, erect and sell pulverised coal-fired sub-critical and super critical boilers ranging from 60-1,000 Mw for the power sector.

“This agreement will not only bring us the latest technology for sub-critical and super critical boilers but also the best manufacturing and project management practices,” said Singh.

The company has an order book of around Rs 3,400 crore and is likely to add another Rs 600 crore worth of project by September end. The projects will be executed over the next 12-18 months.
