Reboot Systems India Private Limited, an IT goods refurbishment startup, is planning to scale up its 'Infinity Points' retail chain to 250 stores across 29 states by the end of the next financial year, according to its co-founder and chief executive officer Rahul Chowdhury.
Established by Chowdhury and Anand Tater in October 2012 in Hyderabad, Reboot Systems has shifted its headquarters to Gurgaon in December 2014. At present, the company has presence in 10 states with 30 outlets.
"At present, the availability, access and penetration of PCs (personal computers) in India are abysmally low. Our country has just 16 PCs per 1,000 people, wherein only nine million out of 168 million rural households and 15 million of the 78 million urban households currently have a PC. IT goods refurbishment is the need of the hour in India for bridging the digital divide by providing affordable and dependable IT products to the masses," he told Business Standard.
The Microsoft-registered company currently focuses on the refurbishment of desktops, laptops, mobility devices like smartphones and tablets, and PC peripherals. Reboot procures pre-owned IT goods from IT resources of organisations, processes them at its factory in Gurgaon, and sells them via its Infinity Points. An entry-level Reboot-refurbished PC comes with a price tag of Rs 4,999, laptop for Rs 9,999 and a smartphone for Rs 999.
Reboot, which received Rs 3 crore in an angel round from five Hyderabad-based high networth individuals in 2012, is looking at raising $10 million in a Series-A round of funding by the end of this financial year. Chowdhury said the funds would be deployed to expand its Infinity Points chain, augment technology and beef up its online presence.
Reboot Systems, which is the exclusive desktop category merchant partner for ecommerce players like Amazon and Junglee, has recently launched its own ecommerce platform Therebootstore.com. "We are now testing the waters in the ecommerce space. Our idea is to go solo in the long-term," Chowdhury said.
