The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has taken up modernisation of the City Bus Stand (CBS), located near the busy K R Circle in the heart of Mysore.

Modernisation of the SBS is one among infrastructure-related projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for Mysore.

With the modernisation work initiated, the city bus services have begun operation at two places close to the Palace from today. The two temporary bus stands are the premises of the Cauvery Area Development Authority (CADA) offices and the Palace Southern entrance, both at close proximity to each other.

With this temporary arrangement, the present CBS will remain closed until modernisation works are completed and city buses will continue to operate from the two temporary bus stands, which is to take about 18 months.

Temporary platform Nos. 1, 3 and 4 are erected at the CADA premises, while Platform Nos. 2, 5 and 5 at the Palace Southern Gate premises. All other facilities required for commuters have been provided at the two places, according to KSRTC Divisional Controller M N Srinivas.

The modernisation of the CBS and reconstruction of the Mofussil Bus Stand on the Bangalore-Ooty Road are proposed as part of the transport-related infrastructure projects under JNNURM in Mysore.

Though the Comprehensive Development Plan has proposed an investment of Rs 428 crore, after an appraisal it has been recalculated at Rs. 378.5 crore for the transport-related projects.

While the mofussil bus stand will be reconstructed on modern lines, the CBS will be remodeled on modern lines with bus bays, digital displays, signboards and other facilities. However, the projects are already delayed by over nine months since the release of funds for the transport-related projects.
