He added that the Centre should exempt NLC from the rule which mandates that the public service undertaking must have minimum 10% public shareholding.
In a letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Karunanidhi said that this would be in line with the demand of the workers' unions and other interested parties.
He added that if the government cannot exempt the company from the rule, the five per cent stake which it plans to dilute should be sold to the State Government, as a public purchase and not as institutional purchase.
