Medical equipment supplier Kirloskar Technologies today said it had entered into a partnership with InspireMD, an Israeli medical device company, to distribute a new stent used in treating heart attack.

"Our partnership is a collaboration for marketing, sales and research," Kirloskar Technologies CEO Amardeep Sethi said.

The company plans to start marketing of MGuard stents in India immediately and within a year it will start a registry in India for patients, who use MGuard stents.

MGuard is a mesh-based coronary stent system designed for use in heart attack patients and is priced between Rs 75,000 and Rs 1,25,000.

"This innovative concept has enjoyed an enthusiastic welcome from leading interventional cardiologists around the world," Sethi said.

The stents market in India is around 1,80,000 units per year and the numbers are expected to grow by 15 to 20 per cent. The firm expects to tap this sizable market, he added.

Sethi said the company was also in talks with a Japanese firm for a collaboration in preventive cardiology, but did not name the company.

Kirloskar Technologies is part of the Kirloskar Group and has over 250 installations in 175 major government, medical colleges and private hospitals.
