"It will lead to a paradigm shift in the lifestyle category, just like LML Freedom did in the deluxe commuter segment," LML Managing Director Deepak Singhania said at the launch.
The motorcycle is likely to hit the market in the next few months. Singhania said he hoped to sell at least 60,000 Graptors within an year of its launch.
Though he refused to disclose the price of the motorcycle, LML officials indicated that it would be priced at par with the Bajaj Pulsar.
The company has used Daelim technology to develop the Graptor's engine. Graptor, the design of which is Italian, has a rectangular frame based on extruded steel technology for better vehicle stability and rigidity. It has a sculpted fuel tank with sharp front and rear-end styling.
With Freedom and Graptor in its stables, Singhania said that the company would close the current financial year (October 2003-September 2004) with motorcycle sales of 280,000 and scooter sales of 40,000.
He added that LML would add more motorcycles to its portfolio during the current year and launch gearless scooters in 2005.
The higher sales during the year are expected to improve the company's fortunes. "We also hope to do a turnaround this year," Singhania added.
The company will invest Rs 245 crore in two phases to raise the company's production capacity from 200,000 annually to 600,000.
