Maruti Suzuki, India's biggest car maker, today launched the S-Cross, a premium crossover, priced in the range of Rs 8.34 lakh to Rs 13.74 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Built from a completely new platform the S-Cross is the first real attempt by the market leader to enter the premium segment, something which its peers including Hyundai have done effortlessly.

The new vehicle, which would be sold through a dedicated distribution channel called Nexa, will be offered only in diesel and has two variants. This is the global launch of the car. The company and its suppliers have invested over Rs 600 crores towards developing this model.

Though the S-Cross will compete against Hyundai i20 Active, Toyota Etios Cross and Fiat Avventura it is priced higher than competition.

Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki said: “There is a segment of customers in India who want power and performance in their vehicle, but also the comfort and refinement of a sedan. Built on a brand new platform, its bold cross-over shape, dynamic character lines and many sophisticated touches contribute to its distinct look and emotional appeal."

The S-Cross sports multi information display, twin dial instrument cluster features blue lighting, while the rest of the controls sport a soothing amber back-lighting. The navigation system, smart play infotainment system, steering mounted controls and abundant space for all passengers make travelling in the S-CROSS a delight.

The 6 speed manual transmission DDiS 320 engine generates power of 88kw@3750 rpm delivering a fuel efficiency of 22.70kmpl while the 5 speed manual transmission DDiS 200 engine generates power of 66kw@4000rpm delivering 23.65kmpl.

The new car has hi-tensile steel body, all wheel disc brakes with ABS, front seat pre-tensioner and force limiter. Dual air bags are standard across all variants.
