Bucking the trend of slowdown in the auto industry, Maruti Suzuki sold 71,000 vehicles for Spetember, 2008, a 5.3 per cent increase compared to the total number of cars sold in September 2007.
Interestingly, the bulk of the increase came from the A3 segments which includes sedans like SX4 and DZire.
Sales in this segment rose by 51.8 per cent this year compared to last. Sales in the C segment, which includes models like the Omni and Versa also saw a significant increase of above 16 per cent.
However, there was a major decline of above 33 per cent in the A1 segment sales which pared the total passenger car sales increase for September 2008 to 2 per cent in comparison to last year.
