Technology company Moser Baer plans to double the number of its Ultra Life showrooms -that exclusively sell the company’s products- by the end of this year. Moser Baer had established the first store in 2008 and has nine of them now in various parts of Delhi and NCR, Chandigarh, Surat, Srinagar and Ludhiana. By the end of this year, 11 more will be setup in smaller towns and cities like Pune and Vizag.

These showrooms are authorised sellers and distributors for Moser Baer consumer electronics like LCD TVs, DVD players, portable DVD Players, digital photo frames, media players and multimedia speakers.

“We will have 20 Ultra Life stores by the end of this year. Most of the big places are cluttered and we want to setup the showrooms in places that get high footfalls. All these are franchisee stores comprising a showroom manager and around three sales people,” said Rajiv Kenue, vice president, consumer electronics-India and SAARC at Moser Baer.

The company had an outlay of Rs 2 crore for the initial nine stores and a similar amount will be invested in expanding the store footprint this year.

“The existing stores do sales of almost Rs 20 lakh per month and our strength in these is our range of LCD televisions. We plan to launch a new range of home theatres, LCD TVs MP3 players, among others this year,” added Kenue. The Ultra Life stores are part of Moser Baer’s consumer electronics business which is included in the company’s blank optical media business that contributes 60 per cent to the company’s revenues. Besides consumer electronics, they also sell IT peripherals like USB drives, memory cards, DVD writers, PC peripherals, UPS and external hard drive.

In fact, the company wants to be positioned in the league of the top electronics players and hence, it launched an e-commerce website in the beginning of May to push sales. “The idea behind this was to focus more on customers abroad and the youth which is our target audience. We also sold a home theatre system online,” he added.
