New Apple TV might challenge the traditional gaming industry

With Tim Cook-led Apple Inc likely to unveil its new Apple TV in San Francisco on Wednesday, the tech trackers, obviously, are waiting in anticipation. However, what comes as a surprise to many is the word ‘gaming’ getting associated with the device.

The instant reaction: Apple and gaming ? According to a New York Times  report, briefing on Apple’s new product, a group of people said the company was making gaming the primary selling point of its new product.

While Apple TVs are supposed to be for video streaming and music, Apple Macs are often ignored by gamers. Before the iPad and iPhone, no one might have thought about any relation between Apple and gaming.

However, it seems the company is again going to change how it is perceived — this time in the field of gaming.

The NYT  report said Apple TV might not be as good as the Xbox or Play station, or have very powerful graphics, or be good enough for complicated high-end games, but the TV might shine in a living room.

The report quotes Jan Dawson, chief analyst at the technology research firm Jackdaw Research, as saying: “What the Apple TV has the potential to do is to bring casual gaming to the living room and make it a much more social activity.”
