Newspaper slugfest in the mountains

A price war is brewing up in the print media space in Uttarakhand with leading newspapers slashing their prices by 33 per cent much to the delight of the readers.

Following the price cut by two leading Hindi dailies, HT Media Ltd, which had last month launched its Hindi daily Hindustan from Dehradun, also decreased its price from Rs 3 to Rs 2 per copy from Sunday. It even distributed free copies of its daily in some localities of the city.

The group has also launched a strong campaign in the state, including road shows, gifts and other freebies. On Saturday, the Sahara India group also slashed the prices of its newspaper Rashtriya Sahara, which was launched in the city last October, by 33 per cent to Rs 2.

The move came after the market leaders in the hill state
