The National Textile Corporation (NTC) is set to open 25 new showrooms across the country, of which the lone showroom for the state of Uttar Pradesh will be opened in Kanpur. The initiative is aimed at expanding its customer base apart from an aggressive marketing for its products.
The state, which was once home to 11 NTC mills, has now received just one showroom while all other states have been allotted commencement of more than five retail stores. At present, the lone showroom in the city at the entrance of Muir mill is registering a sale of around Rs 50 lakh per annum, while the entire potential for sales is much higher. The NTC products still hang in the mind of customers as a reputed brand, but the starting of just one showroom has negated the otherwise bright prospects. Around two decades ago, the state had 65 NTC showrooms, of which 11 were in Kanpur.
