The 54 MW project comprises of 27 wind turbine generator (WTG) units and each unit has an installed capacity of 2000 Kw. The wind farm was effectively connected to the Rajasthan State Electricity Grid at ‘AKAL’, at a distance of 47 Km from ‘Dangri’ Wind Farm. The project was completed at a cost of approximately Rs 360 crore and within 142 days from the date of issuing of letter of award (LOA) to the bidder.
OIL had established its footprint in renewable energy sector by commissioning a 13.6 MW wind project in Rajasthan last year, connecting it to the Power grid of Rajasthan Rajya Power Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (RRVPNL) at Amar Sagar, Jaiselmer. As of March 2013, OIL’s total installed wind power capacity is 67.6MW.
S K Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director, OIL said: “This selective diversification into the alternate energy sources was a strategic decision under the company’s strategic plan. OIL would continue its journey towards expanding its renewable energy resources in future with participation in many more such projects.”
Besides wind energy, OIL has also made a modest beginning in the field of solar energy with the commissioning of its second 100 kWp solar captive power plant at Tanot Village Complex (TVC) of OIL’s operational area in Jaiselmer. The first 100 Kw Solar Plant is situated at its operational area in Assam. Additionally, OIL has also taken up a 5 MW solar power plant to be commissioned near Ramgarh, Jaiselmer, Rajasthan and the said mega project is expected to be completed during the 3rd quarter of the current financial year.
Currently, the total potential for wind power in India has been estimated as 48500 MW at 50 M height and approximately 1, 02000 MW at 80 M out of which only 17-18 per cent has been tapped.
