Jha was selected from eight candidates who were interviewed by PESB on Friday. The other candidates included two other directors and four executive directors from PGCIL, and one advisor from the rail ministry.
The appointment will be announced by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet, which is under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). It is likely to come by August after necessary scrutiny on the recommended candidate is done.
The tenure of the current CMD, R N Nayak, concludes in September 2015. The post of PowerGrid CMD is considered to be one of the most powerful positions, given the company’s monopoly in the power transmission sector.
