This would be the first project of country’s largest power producer to be built with the super critical technology. The project would have five units of 800-Mw each. The Prime Minister would lay the foundation stone for the stage-1 of the project comprising two units through remote operation system from Sipat in Bilaspur district at 11 am.
The Prime Minister would also dedicate the state-run NTPC's Sipat thermal power project to the Nation.
The Sipat project has three units of 660 MW in stage I and 2 units of 500 MW in stage II. The three units of the 660-Mw had been based on the super critical technology. The Sipat plant was the first among the NTPC’s plant across the country where the modern super critical technology was introduced.
The Lara power project would however have all the five units based on the modern super critical technology, the company officials said. The Prime Minister would lay the foundation stone for the stage-1 while in stage-2, three units of 800-Mw would be taken up, the officials added.
The Palaipali coal block under the Mand-Raigarh coalfields that had been allotted to the NTPC in Raigarh district would feed the raw material for the Lara power project located at a distance of seven kms from the mines. The company would draw water from Mahanadi, about five kms from plant, to meet its requirement.
