Broadband infrastructure provider Radius Infratel has successfully commissioned the fibre-to-home network for telecom and entertainment services in the Commonwealth Games Village.
Every apartment at the Games Village has been connected through optical fibres, through which MTNL and Airtel will deliver voice, broadband and IPTV services, Radius said in a statement.
The fibre-to-home (FTTH) infrastructure will enable telecom companies to deliver a host of high bandwidth applications to residents at the Games Village, including IPTV, content on demand and networking solutions.
During the Commonwealth Games, Ericsson will assist Radius Infratel in monitoring and managing the network, besides catering to the communication needs of the 8,000 dignitaries, athletes and team officials staying in the village, spread over 34 towers and 1,168 flats.
"Technology needs to work for the benefit of consumers. We are happy to have worked closely with the CWG Organising Committee, Ericsson, Emaar, MTNL and Airtel to deliver a superior communication solution that showcases the technical prowess of India," Radius Infratel Managing Director H S Singh said.
The unified last mile connectivity implemented by Radius Infratel, christened as the Neutral Access Network Operations Network (NANOnet), utilises Ericsson's GPON system and simultaneous sharing of the same network to provide a bouquet of services to end-users.
Furthermore, NANOnet enables wi-fi coverage within the village, along with GSM and CDMA coverage.
The innovative FTTH infrastructure will enable delivery of services like high definition broadcast of games channels, IPTV, seamless Wi-Fi and ultra high speed Internet to visiting officials and players.
The open access solution will enable players and games officials to select services from a service provider of their choice.
