Ramco to set up cement unit in AP

The initial investment in the project will be Rs 1,500 cr

Chennai-based Ramco group has come forward to set up a cement plant in Kolimigandla mandal of Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh (AP) with an initial investment of Rs 1,500 crore.

By the end of final phase, the total investment in the proposed unit is expected to go up to Rs 3,000 crore, according to state government’s communication adviser, Parakala Prabhakar.

Ramco group is the fifth largest cement producer in the country and currently has eight manufacturing facilities spread over Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and AP with a combined capacity of 15.5 million tonnes per annum.

Prabhakar stated Ramco group vice chairman, PR Venketrama Raja, had met AP chief minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, on Wednesday and informed him about the company's plans to set up a cement plant. The chief minister welcomed the proposal and instructed officials to acquire the land required for the project.

Naidu also agreed to the request of Raja to prevail upon the Centre to lay a 20-km line from Kolimigandla to Sanjamala for transportation of cement not only from the proposed plant but also other cement making units existing in the vicinity.
