RCom joins 1 paise bandwagon, this time it's SMS

Reliance Communications (RCom) today introduced 1 paise per SMS plan taking the tariff war to the data front from voice calls.

The Anil Ambani group company today launched a plan under which 1 paise will be charged per SMS and at a monthly rental of Rs 11, Reliance Communications President Mahesh Prasad, said here.

Telecom Minister A Raja recently had said telcos need to bring down SMS rates which are currently at 50-60 paise per SMS.

Other operators are likely to follow suit.

Reliance Communications stocks were down 1.54 per cent at 166.30 in the afternoon trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
